What to Expect at Your First Appointment:

Typically a cardiac evaluation begins with a cardiologist consult. After obtaining vitals and a medical history, a resting 12-lead EKG is preformed to detect irregular heart rhythms or old injuries to the heart. Labwork is frequently ordered, these tests help identify risks for cardiac disease as well as determine general health status. An Echocardiogram maybe ordered to evaluate the heart’s size and how strongly the heart is pumping. A stress treadmill test may also be ordered to evaluate whether adequate blood flow to the heart occurs during exercise. If these tests are positive, further evaluation may be necessary. The standard for determining the exact location and degree of blockage in the arteries is an angiogram or cardiac catherization. In addition to Echocardiograms and Stress Testing, Carotid Doppler Testing, Venous and Arterial Doppler Testing maybe preformed when indicated.
